Alqueva is the biggest artificial lake in Europe. With more then 250 km2 of water surface, which covers 5 municipalities of Alentejo.
Thanks to the damming of the river, today it is the largest lake in Portugal. Part of the lake is in Portugal and the other side in Spain binding together the 2 countries and some of their traditions.
The lake is in the rural area of Alentejo and home of the historical Monsaraz castle.
This is a perfect tour for those who prefer to spend a relaxing day, enjoying the harmony between human action and nature. It includes a boat tour at the lake, lasting about 1h00 and lunch (drinks not included) at a panoramic restaurant with lake view.
After lunch we’ll be heading to a “must see” destination, the medieval village of Monsaraz. You will be able to freely walk about, discovering all the hidden places of a village built on the VIII century and its tiny streets, Moorish aspects and medieval architecture show much of Portuguese and Alentejo’s rich history.
This day ends with a wine tasting session of some of the nicest local wines.
