Join Go Discover Portugal on a very typical Portuguese culinary tradition during a beach barbecue where you will learn to barbecue Portuguese style and enjoy this very typical Portuguese outdoor activity.
Barbecue you could say is something in the DNA of the Portuguese and whenever the weather is good, the Portuguese will bring the barbecue out of the garage and onto the garden, street or the official public areas where it is alowed and will grill whatever was good to get on the day. Usually the entire family, friends or neigbhours will join the event and each will bring something to make the occaision even more festive.
Unlike barbecueing in most of the rest of the world, you could consider Portugal’s grills a culinary occaision consisting of delicate fish such as Sea bass, Dourada and Sardins, among others, grilled octopus and piri piri chicken or some of the typical Portuguese sausages.
Portugal has many restaurants that offer charcoal grilled meats and fishes, some of which are very good but to get the real experience there is nothing that compares to a barbecue in the outdoor on a beach, in a park or in the designated areas for barbecueing that most towns have.
Barbecueing Portuguese style is always done on a charcoal grill, where the charcoal has been perfectly prepared to the point of red hot without flames. Chickens are coated in sauces, fish in rough sea salt and than they are grilled to perfection.
Grills are accompanied by salads, bread and often roasted potatoe cooked straight in the fire.
As a team or group activity, barbecue on the beach can be a great way to experience Portugals tradition in a fun environment and learn some special trades on the art of barbecueing Portuguese style!
We currently provide this activity in various locations in Portugal for groups of more than 8 people. Reservation must a be minimum of 14 days in advance as in certain cases licenses need to be requested and many of the properties are private.
The workshop is roughly 2.5 hours including lunch or dinner and available 7 days a week. The workshop is conducted by a chef specialized in grills and can be accompanied by life fado.
We use real plates, glasses and cutlery to give a nice luxury touch to the event.
