Most atmospheric Tejo valley restaurants, central Portugal

The Tejo valley is one of the most fertile regions of Portugal starting just above Lisbon , it covers the area around the Tejo, Tagus river north of Lisbon city.

The region was the first region in Portugal cultivated for the production of wine 2000 years BC and has a rich diverse landscape, incorporating mountainous areas, large stretched valleys and hilly shores. The area was once the main stronghold of the Moors  and later against the Moors and it was an active route for trade and pilgrimage. Much of it´s history is still evident in the many remaining fords and castles.

The district is not touristic, yet it has all the aspects necessary to provide for a perfect holiday, vacation or short get away.

The Tejo produces many wines and has a rich and unique gastronomy just waiting for discovery. This article covers some of the  most atmospheric restaurants and taverns we have found here. We hope they will interest you on your road to Discovery!
