Cabeça Gorda is a small village not far from Martinchel, that has a long swimming beach, close to a small island. The beach is stony sand with parts only schist stone, layered and climbing, making attractive, rocky patterns that are difficult to sit on but great to look at.
On the day we visited it was a national holiday, august and very hot and it was busy but it’s a long beach with a lot of private places as most people tend to stay close to the car-park. Outside of the august month it’s very likely to be much calmer.
No loud music or jet ski’s anywhere!
Plenty of parking space. Drive through the village continually downwards.
The water has small shallow areas but gets deep fast. Due to the island which breaks the lake water, there is some stream.
The beach has no amenities. The village a few local bars with basic provisions.See related: Activities Castelo do Bode | Castelo do bode | Santarem District | Swimming Tomar | Tomar
