The castle of Torres Novas is in the centre of Torres Novas, close to the shopping district.
When the castle was founded is not known as little of it’s history is known before the conquest of Henriques Afonso in 1148.
The castle had fallen into ruin before this time and was first rebuild in 1190 by Sancho I.
The castle even though small and mainly consisting of its walls and towers is a very nice place to visit. Inside the wall is a pleasant and pretty garden and some of the towers have been fitted with telescopes given a few to the mountain range called d’Aire. The other telescope faces the old centre of Torres Novas. illustrated Charts explain the points you can look and use of the telescopes is free as is entry to the castle.See related: Torres Novas
