Pousada do Alcacer do Sal, Alentejo ⋆⋆⋆⋆

Spend a holiday in the historic Pousada de Alcacer do Sal. Situated in the old castle built by the Muslims, and in 1186, Sancho I donated the castle to the Order of Santiago.
In the century. XVI is adapted to the convent of operation of warrior monks and later cloistered nuns, having been active until 1834. Pousada is comfortably installed on a hill overlooking the tranquil waters, but certain, running from south to north of Rio Sado.

Be a guardian of the time and space in Alcacer do Sal. In an area referenced by its strategic and geographic importance since the sixth century BC, nothing in their past days here will be common or repeatable. Do not be fooled by the immutability of tranquil landscape that meets every window or niche – albeit go feel the weight of the world on the thickness of the walls, windows and Gothic doors and works of art referenced in the hallways. This Pousada proofs that time changes everything and what was once a kitchen for Poor nuns living in seclusion is now a lounge where you can read a book left by another guest passing through.
Climb the contemporary stairs to the second floor and find out where the nuns attended Mass, through barred windows of imposing a single nave church, irresistible reverberant acoustics for the echoes of children. Look for the secluded and comfortable reading room and be sure to find an access to the terrace of the tallest tower, where you can shoot a setting of the sun over the rice fields which is, in itself, a journey through time.
Whether you come to pass and be just an end-of-week, whether you choose the inn as resting place for a quiet and elegant holiday, Pousada de Alcacer will be able to surprise you with the delicate balance between his ascetic load and your current comfort . Find other type of religiosity in the gardens where ancient olive trees, oaks and wild olive trees form a natural barrier between the pool, the lawn and crannies with wooden seats for reading and resting.
The Muslim wall is a constant companion, circling, protecting and involving your room and your stay in mystery, achievement and curiosity. There is always more to see, more wall to go, more streets up and down, more battles to imagine, more river, rice fields, dunes and beaches to explore.

Beaches, yes. Although prosaic enough, are the perfect counterpoint to the story of your holiday. Less than 30 km on a road that is almost in a straight line, is one of the best kept secrets of the Portuguese coast: the beaches of Comporta, Carvalhal and Pego. Chosen by the most sophisticated society and more entrenched fishermen, these beaches can find the best restaurants and the most wild dunes. You can even imitate the ancient knights and horseback riding in the sand.
Of course, do not forget that is in the Alentejo: where you will surely find a good restaurant close by, no matter where you are. Pork, hunting, rice, fried fish from the river and the wonderful grilled fish of the sea will give a unique and delicious flavour to your holiday. Even if it is vegetarian, between migas, rice, soups and açordas you will find plenty from the traditional kitchen to try.
Enjoy a stay in Alcacer do Sal Inn, named in honor of King Alfonso II assured that once their membership of the Portuguese territory and have an unforgettable vacation forever.
