On the highest point in Constanciã, close to the science centre and the horse riding stables, you will find the beautiful Quinta da Santa Barbara, the quinta (Portuguese manor house) was owned by a friend of Luis de Camoes, D. Francisco Sampayo e Mello, and it was build in the 15th century and for a time. 200 years after being built, it became the home to Jesuit monks.
Its current owner bought it in the 1970’s and has rehabilitated it for rural tourism, it has a private swimming pool, beautiful gardens, a restaurant and lovely rooms but the original structure and feel where kept intact.
The restaurant and bar are amazingly beautiful. The serene historic surrounding, stone table-tops and rough, natural stone masonry, magnificantly painted ceilings can give you the feeling that you’ve been invited to eat and drink at the original 15th century Quinta, and in fact your whole stay will feel like this. The food is prepared with care and the owner makes you feel taken care of and even slightly (comfortably) spoilt.Quinta da Santa Barbara is a perfect place for retreat, a romantic getaway or an active family holiday in the vicinity of Contancia and all it has to offer.
The Quinta is within walking distance (2km) of the historical centre of Constancia and close to its a23 highway exit. It is by far the nicest and most luxurious place to stay in this district at surprisingly affordable prices!
Close to Abrantes, Tomar, Fatima, Torres Novas and Castelo do Bode.
