Considering that it is a mountain range, the distances are not that big . its a small group of mountains, roughly 40000 hectares in size, the climate is much influenced by the proximity of the ocean causing warm and dry summers and wet winters, snow seldom falls here but frost can occur during the winter months. Roads are excellent though getting to some of the smaller villages in the more remote areas can be a little nerve wrecking but no more than on any other mountain.

Serras de D`aire and Candeeiros natural park as been a protected nature reserve since 1979 and has many plants species, wildlife and insects that are unique in Portugal to this area. it also has many archeological remains that are still unresearched and unique to this area.
