This form of team building can be very constructive for an organization but in certain situations a more interesting form of a team experience is one without competition.

Teamwork challenges by Go Discover Portugal are an activity developed to create a better team building experience the aim is not competition between teams but cooperation towards finding solutions to achieve a common goal.

Portugal, a country that has had much hardship, past political dictatorship, crisis, extreme climates and poverty has many examples of coexisting societies, towns, villages or rural districts where each member is seen as important and each member participates in their own unique way to the better functioning and success of their society. This is why the teamwork concept seems so relevant in particularly this country.

Team members learn to understand and utilize each others strengths and advantages in a certain situation.

Even though competition can be fun, this activity concentrates on togetherness, team cooperation and concentration on a common goal and final result in which each participant has been useful and appreciated and has participated in their own unique manner to the final result!

Talents that will be utilized during this activity creativity, problem solving, organizational skills, strategy development, the ability to accomplish tasks.

Setting: city setting or rural setting anywhere in Portugal

Teamwork Team buildings by Go Discover Portugal are designed to confirm a person’s sense of identity and self-esteem, besides improving the ability to work in teams. “effective teams operate in a climate of support rather than defensiveness. Team members should confirm one another, support one another, and listen to one another as they perform their work”.

In this particular activity each team will be assigned a task and each member in the team will be asked their talent and how they wish to contribute to the completion of the task.

Concept of a teamwork team building

First lets envision our task. There are many tasks available depending on your team composition and the area of your team that you want to develop the tasks can be simple to very complex. For instance a task could be as simple as to create a barbecue or Pick-nick lunch for all the members of your team in an unknown place. In the city you will need to find the markets and shops, the equipment necessary, the place to have it, the people to prepare it and the people to serve it. Dropped out of nowhere without a map prior knowledge of the city or countryside and limited time and resources.
When one team fails their task so will the others.
You will need to determine a strategy in which teams will be formed to complete different tasks that fit best the talents of the formed teams.
After completion your teams will be rewarded with the fruits of the produce with a relaxing lunch or dinner at a perfect location together if each teams has completed their individual tasks successfully.

A more complex task could be creating a new product from concept to final product, or filming your own soap.
The type of activities are endless and different but the concept always the same, teams will work together towards a final result and one cannot function without the other, at the end they will share the rewards of their collaborative achievement.

Some of the group compositions can be
Problem solving: The problem solvers will need to travel to various places to find the clues that will help the pathfinders set out the locations for the remaining teams
Pathfinding : The path finders will use the solutions provided by the problem solvers to direct the other teams to the locations they need to solve their specific task
Gathering: the gatherer team will have the task of gathering goods from the various specified locations to finalize their task
Creating: the creatives are responsible for the materialization of a product or solution
Organizers: the organizers will be given the task to find and prepare the area where the final solution will be presented
Directing: The directors will give direction so all the groups works together efficiently

The outcome: All team members will be rewarded with in the same manner at the end of the event and will be given the opportunity to celebrate their success together, they will know each other better and will have learned more on the advantages of collaboration.
