Since 1955 our house defends the greatest tradition of Lisbon’s Fado and one of the greatest traditions of Portugal our gastronomy through these two pillars build the good image of our restaurant both nationally and internationally. Fado is to the Portuguese people an art to express a state of melancholy or joyful soul.
Given its cultural value, Fado was considered in 2011 by UNESCO World Heritage Site, with Lisbon the capital of this cultural movement.
In 1955, the couple Júlio de Barros Evangelista and Maria José de Barros Evangelista opened the restaurant “A Severa”.
The name “A Severa” was inspired by the story of an old gypsy teal that was the most famous fado performer of his time (XIX century).
“A Severa” is the oldest fado house in Lisbon that remains in the same family. Counting with three generations is famous for its food and the good fado. It is one of Lisbon city icons and she spent the best singers in the history of fado.
Situated in one of the most typical neighborhoods of Lisbon, Bairro Alto, “A Severa” invites you to enjoy a remarkable evening, where a warm and comfortable atmosphere to the sound of Fado can enjoy traditional Portuguese cuisine.
