Cooking at Sofia’s house – Portuguese cooking classes in Evora
The most popular traditional cooking workshops in Evora are organized by a hands on chef called Sofia in her wonderful 18th century house in the historical centre of Evora. Cooking and world heritage come together amazingly in this lovely place and Sofia will welcome you in the traditional friendly manner as you are invited as a guest to her home.
This is not a show cooking, but a hands-on experience where we learn about Portuguese cuisine, its influences and traditions.
The portuguese cuisine has a huge amount of ingredients, all with great taste due to our good weather and landscape. So, according to the season we have a big variety of food: pork, lamb, beef, rabbit, fish, shellfish, chicken, quail and vegetarian. We can also adapt to different food intolerance problems. Our most popular ingredients are: olive oil, garlic, onion and aromatic herbs, like coriander, parsley, oregano, thyme, rosemary, pennyroyal, chives and many other.
That is the base for most everything!
Our stories have tastes and smells. Their names can be: Migas, Açordas, Carne de Porco à Alentejana, Bacalhau à Lagareiro, Alhada de Cação, are some of the traditional dishes we cook here.
The workshop consists of about 2 hrs we cook lunch using the very traditional recipes and old techniques that really tell you about our culture and history. After cooking it is time to eat and flavor the food you made with us, enjoying our wine selection for each meal.
It normally starts at 10,30 /11am and finishes after lunch when you’ll eat the dishes you prepared: 3 courses including appetizers and dessert, drinks are included.
Dinner is also possible on request.
Where we cook?
Our kitchen is settled in a traditional 18th century family house, inside walls of the lovely historic Évora, on the border of the ancient Jewish quarter. We will be honored to share with you our culture through this experience! If your hotel is inside walls we can pick you up. As option we can meet at the main square, Praça Giraldo, in front of the Tourism Office.
The single cooking class cost Price per person including all cooking supplies, lunch with drinks: €98,00.
