The east of Madeira is one of its most popular and culturally interesting areas of Madeira, Camacha is known as Madeira’s cultural capital and Santana is known for its typical, traditional A shaped houses, this tour is a full day tour and includes guides and transport by van.
Itinerary of the East Madeira tour
After collection at your hotel we travel to Camacha visiting the wicker work factory. You will be shown examples of the traditional wicker craft that is so typical of Madeira.
We will than take you to the Pico do Arieiro, the 3dr highest peak of the Island with dramatic landscapes and amazing views over the landscape and surrounding sea. We then visit , Ribeiro Frio (the cold river), and learn about the natural forest of the island seeing examples on a short walk in this forest.
We visit Faial and go to Santana known for its “A” framed houses, many of which are still inhabited to this day.
We will than take you on a typical lunch in a reputable restaurant with a good choice of local specialities and a choice of Madeira table wines.
In the afternoon after our lengthy and peaceful break we commence to visit Ponta de São Lourenço with spectacular geology and seascapes. We take the opportunity to visit the historic city of Machico, before returning to Funchal.
