When we started Go Discover we had no idea extreme sports would become so popular on the site and we love them, there is no better way to redefine your limits, energy and capabilities…. but we also had no idea how innocently people involve themselves with them. Booking a paragliding flight or a diving experience for 100 pax just to get in a bus to one hour later jump from a plane and skydive their way to lunch so that they will make it on time to the mountain climb, canyonering – canoe or rafting event! All fantastic and great to do on Go Discover Portugal but  guys, lets put the break on….and talk about safety, personal choice and getting home alive and healthy, so you live to tell the stories!

Be aware

Now don’t get me wrong, we want you to book all the exciting stuff we have on offer!

These sports are extreme and that means that if you want to try them you don’t just jump in blindfolded to gather an impressive story to tell when you go home, it means you realize you’re doing an extreme sport that takes awareness, has safety requirements and it has rules, which in Portugal are strict and need to be followed.

Some rules to take into consideration when planning an extreme activity

First rule. Extreme sports are extreme
Second rule.they are sports, don’t combine them with alcohol or other stimulants, have a drink afterwards but not for at least 24 hours before.
third rule. Do it only with a qualified certified instructor and fully licensed company with proper equipment that meets the guidelines.
fourth rule. Do it only when weather conditions allow, if your following rule 3 you instructor will know. Portugal has an extreme coastline and can can have strong, changing and unpredictable winds, sea conditions and climate, be informed!
fifth rule. don’t go deep into the sea and high up in the air all on the same day, the pressure changes can be to much,, preferable keep 24 hours between both activities
sixth rule.Trust your instructors! trust they know what they are doing, follow the instruction at all times!
seventh rule. follow your instinct as long as it doesn’t clash with the first 6 rules. If you feel scared or have doubts, allow yourselves to change mind when it doesn’t feel right for you!

Rule 8.Having taken the first 7 rules seriously, Enjoy, cherish and love the exciting things you’ve chosen to do!

On Go Discover Portugal we only work with professional companies and qualified instructors that take safety as a first priority, our instructors will not go out if circumstances are not 100% trustworthy and work only with qualified and certified equipment.

To consider and know

Air activities can only take place when the wind is right, they will not go ahead if this is not the case and the wind situation is only clear 48 hours before any event
Water activities depend on the state of the sea, some go better on waves others need peaceful sea circumstances to go ahead.
land activities – generally go ahead but heat can be an issue in the heart of summer, whereas rain can be a problem in the depths of winter,

Knowing all this, ask us for advice before you book, than book and enjoy!
