The Herdade do Azinhal is situated in the small parish of Santa Clara-a-Velha 4 km form the Santa Clara dam and 30 km from Odemira.
The Herdade do Azinhal consists of 5 cottages, land, a swimming pool and a very attractive breakfast room.
The cottages are fully equipped, recovered farmers homes originally from the early 19th century.

The village of Santa Clara-a-Velha, which borders the Herdade do Azinhal has 948 inhabitants and is a rural agricultural and typically Alentejo community which welcomes you with friendliness and hospitality.

Originally the parish belonged to the order of Santiago de Espada, who authorized the inhabitants to built the chapel in
the XVth century. The village evolved in the shadows of the church.

One of its main tourist attractions is the dam of Santa Clara, at 4km distance, built on the river Mira its an eco paradise.
Its waters are popular for canoing, rowing, water skiing and sport fishing and the fish that can be found in it are the bass, carp and crayfish.

Facing the small village the Herdade do Azinhal covers 120ha of rugged land bordered by amazing views over the Serra monchique and the village.

Hiking is another favorite pastimes of it´s visitors and there are many routes to take. One is the old medieval road or an even older Roman road in the direction of the Algarve, the Roman bridge or the nature surrounding Santa Clara-a-Velha.

2.5km from Santa Clara-a-Velha is a trainstation and on reservation we can provide taxi transport to and from the Herdade.
