O Vale dos Cavalos, horse riding – trails, lessons and holidays in Central Portugal are located in the small hamlet of Cumes, 1 km from Chaos, 12 km from the historical city of Tomar and 65km from the city of Leiria and 140 from Lisbon airport in Portugal’s green heart.
O Vale dos Cavelos is a special place with a very special concept when it comes to horse farming as the horses are kept in a natural way, living in there natural habitat with a lot of space for them to roam and graze and follow their original instincts.
Vale dos Cavalos offer horse riding for all levels on an hourly basis or for complete weekend and holidays including accommodation in a small stone cottage. The location in this rural hideaway is surrounded by ancient tracking trails through the hills and mountains that are perfect for rural discoveries on horse back.
The farm has 8 horses available that live on a paddock of roughly 2km where they live a natural horse life, foraging for food, moving freely on different terrains and finding shelter from oak and cork trees. The horses as a result are relaxed, friendly and a pleasure to be with.
The facilities for riders include a 20m x 40m sand school, a small cross country course and for spectators there is shaded seating, a hammock and a well stocked fridge!
There is a cottage fully equipped to cater for weekend or week stays.
The area has plenty of things to do when you are not riding, relaxing massages, accompanied walking trips and even lessons in bee-keeping! There is a natural spring and bathing pool nearby at Agroal for cooling off and slightly further away the fabulous Castelo do Bode – Portugal’s second largest reservoir – perfect for swimming and all manner of water sports. Tomar is well worth exploring, with it’s maze of cobbled streets, numerous bars and restaurants and the castle which sits high above the town. Coimbra is just over an hours drive away, as is the coastal town of Nazare and the walled city of Obidos.
The horses can cater to all levels of experience, horse riding lesson are also arranged at the farm.

Trail riding holidays run from April 1st to November 20th. The riding school and daily trail rides are open all year (closed 23rd December – 2nd January).
The Big Print.
Your holiday includes;
Transfers to and from Tomar train or bus station. Airport transfers can be arranged at an extra price.
Two or seven nights self-catering accommodation with free Wi-Fi. Complimentary welcome pack of bread, cereal, milk and eggs.
Riding three hours per day on two or six days per week. Riding to be split between lessons and trail riding depending on ability and preferences.
Your holiday does not include;
Insurance. This is mandatory and must include cover for horse riding. We require proof of your policy.

A 20% deposit is payable at the time of booking; the balance is due 14 days before arrival and is non refundable.
