The praia fluvial at Poço Corga or translated the Swimming beach at Poço Corga in the Castanheira de Pera district of Coimbra is a lovely example of a rehabilitated natural beach in Central Portugal.
The beach is situated on the river Ribeira de Pera which is a typical cristal clear and fresh mountain stream for this peaceful and retreated mountanous landscape.
The beach was recovered to keep it’s natural surroundings, nature, flowers and birds intact and there is plenty of space to find a private spot where one can enjoy the natural tree shade or the open sunshine. The surroundings give a view of the mountains and the river has various access points that cater for each age group.
There are pick-nick areas, toilets, showers and a restaurant with drinks and snacks. Entry points have been build for people with walking disabilities.
The water quality is very high and during the summer months life guards are available to ensure swimmers safety.
On the Poço Corga beach, you’ll also find a little museum, Lagar do Corga, commemorating how with hydraulic energy olive oil was pressed in the area.
