Porta do Sol in Santarém is the highest point of the city of Santarem where once the old castle stood, most of it was detroyed in the earthquake in 1531 but in the late 20th century excavation en restoration was begun.
The area itself is now a large park where many locals go to relax, walk and sport framed by the old fortress (restored) wall remains and a few towers which you can climb to admire the amazing Tejo valley below
