Some meetings need noise. Others need the opposite – Pousada da Torreira is built for the second kind: a genuinely intimate retreat on the Ria de Aveiro, with only 19 rooms in total, set on the isthmus between Murtosa and the beaches of Sao Jacinto.
Why it works for an intimate offsite
Just 19 rooms means every group here effectively has the hotel to itself – no competing conferences, no shared lobbies, no distractions. The single meeting room holds up to 70 people theatre-style or 50 for a seated dinner, with the restaurant and bar available as flexible extra space for breakouts or a private group meal. Porto airport is around 50 minutes away by car, close enough for a same-day arrival without feeling like a city extension.
The setting
Opened in the 1960s and set right on the Ria de Aveiro, the hotel looks out over a protected natural landscape at the Bico do Muranzel – lakes, salt flats and open water that have shaped this area since early maritime and fishing trade first settled here. From the balconies, guests can watch the traditional Moliceiros boats at work as the day winds down – the kind of backdrop that changes the tone of a strategy session simply by being outside the window.
Rooms
Rooms run from Classic through Superior, Junior Suite and Large Family, most with a balcony over the gardens or the river and warm, bright interiors. It’s a small enough property that room choice becomes a genuine part of planning a group’s stay, rather than picking from an anonymous block of identical doors.
Beyond the meeting room
The Ria’s network of lakes and channels make this a genuinely good base for downtime between sessions – a boat ride, a swim, horseback riding, or simply the nearby beaches. The restaurant serves local delicacies with the same view that makes the rest of the property work.
