National Palace of Sintra, A mix of Cultures in 1000 years of history
In the center of the town of Sintra, You will find the National Palace of Sintra, the oldest palace in Portugal. Built over centuries this palace shows influences of various cultures starting with the Moors who left their marks on the building. Most evident are the double chimneys in the center of the building. Later it became the favourite hunting palace of the Portuguese royals who would spend their free time in the palace due to the abundance of wildlife around Sintra.

Another favourite location for events is the Elise Friederike Hensler chalet, Elise Friederike Hensler was a fervent patron of the arts and the chalet was a favourite romantic hideout for Ferdinand 2 and Elise.
Montserrat Palace, An Exotic dream and the fantasy of writers
Another inspiring palace is the Monserrat Palace just out of the town of Sintra in the direction of the famous Colares beach. The Palace is considered the exotic dream of a visionary and a prime example of the Portuguese Romanticism period.
Even though Montserrat’s history started in 1540 the palace played with many imaginations and had various owners over the centuries. It became a favourite location for writers and in 1863, following such a succession of owners, histories, restorations, and abandonments, Francis Cook, a British trader and art collector, became the owner of the Estate of Monserrate and the 1st Viscount of Monserrate, he is accredited much of its design and layout today.
