A very nice, friendly restaurant in a quiet street in the historic neighbourhood of Alfama.
Traditional Portuguese food in the traditional neighbourhood of Lisbon, Alfama.
Alfama is one of the oldest districts of Lisbon close to the castle of São Jorge.
It’s winding, narrow, medieval streets are a ‘must do’ when in Lisbon. You wont be the first tourist or only tourist discovering the neighbourhood and you will find a fair share of tourist traps offering expensive meals and invoices even higher than expected. Taberna dos Clerigos is not one of these!
This restaurant serves traditional grilled fish and meat dishes in large portions at surprisingly low prices and a very good and affordable house wine amongst many other wines.
The building is typical Alfama architecture and the terrace in the summer is a pleasure as you will hear and feel Alfama all around you from the locals chatting to each other to the sounds fado singers in surrounding restaurants or on a nearby porch.
The owner is friendly, amiable guy that will take care that you have a very pleasant lunch or diner.
The building is old and architecturally typical of a gorgeous historical occasion.
We had the very best grilled salmon ever!
The food is affordable and the ambiance is of a typical traditional
Portuguese restaurant. Children can play outside as the street is
traffic free.
Definitely worth a visit.
