Thalassotherapie is based on the medicative and healing properties of sea water and even though its origin is unknown, there is evidence that the Romans where already practicing some form of Thalassotherapy 2000 years ago.
In Thalassotherapy elements of magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium are believed to be absorbed by the skin accelerating renewal and having healing effects.
Thalassotherapie uses warm seawater and products from the sea such as Alge, Clay and mud and is believed to benefit the relieve of pain, strengthen lungs and cardiovascular health and Reduce stress.
Thalassotherapy has a long history in Nazare dating back to the end of the 19th century wen it became popular in Europe to bath for health reasons and it has been an important reason for people to travel to Nazare ever since.
The oldest bath dates from 1888 but due to deep renovations, became in 1906 a “smart building” inwardly gifted “of all modern facilities” with “excellent service of its staff and scrupulous cleanliness of the tanks, clothing and waters. ”
