The town once homed Portugals most famous medieval writer and poet Luis de Camoes who lived from 1524 until 1580 and much of the town still home to the same streets and houses that Camoes would have dwelled in his days.

The town surrounded by water and nature is a popular destination for the Portuguese as a historical monument but also for sport activities, nature discoveries and active fun.
