When you travel to Lisbon with a large group opportunities can seem slightly limited at first. The old historical center consists of medieval and late 18th century street plans and buildings that are attractive, historical and beautiful but not suited to large groups. The Space for big hotels is limited as are possibilities for events and meetings. Lisbon`s best large luxury hotel locations
The tightly build old center of Lisbon does not provide much possibility for large hotels that can host bigger groups. For the larger luxury hotels 2 neighborhoods seem most prominent.
1. the area starting in the Avenida da Liberdade and stretching around the Marques de Pombal square
2. the area around the Oriente train/ Metro station, Parquezx de Nacoes.
The Avenida da Liberdade and Marques de Pombal square
The Avenida da Liberdade is the main avenue of Lisbon, starting in the centre it stretches 1,2km Northwards ending on the Marques de Pombal square. The avenue is the grandest of Lisbon and home to the international designer shops, culinary restaurants and luxury hotels.
The Marques de Pombal square located between the Avenida de Liberdade and the Eduardo VII park in an important business area of Lisbon within short distance of the historical centre.
The Oriente / Parque das Nações area
The Parque das Nações is the newest district of Lisbon set up to host the world exhibition in 1998 to commemorate Vasco de Gama`s discoveries 500 years prior. This area has become the home of summits and conferences in Lisbon and some of the major hotels. With its modern infrastructures, easy access, proximity to Lisbon airport and large offer of modern conferencing spaces, it is a popular location for business events in Lisbon.

The Myriad, 1,690 m2 business centre build in glass
originally build as the most ambitious tower erected for the EXPO 98 exhibition which actually gave birth to the entire area around the Oriente, this tower was only to become a hotel in 2007 run by the Sana group. The hotel is considered by some to be the most luxurious modern 5 star in Lisbon. Impressive also is its amazing conferencing centre build in Sana style but its biggest project in Portugal. The Sofitel belonging to the Accor group is possibly the most surprising of the hotels we have suggested in this article.
