Just for fun take tram 28 as a cheap alternative to a guided tour.
Tram 28 has become very popular with tourists as a means to seeing the old historical centre of Lisbon (very often hanging out of the window with camera in hand) from an old local tram that also carries people to their work and daily commutes.
It takes you up an down the mountains at a speed of roughly 50km an hour sometimes making it resemble a roller coaster.
It start at Martim Moniz which has lately been completely recovered and now has a large square with bars and small snack type restaurants and works it way up to Graça, Alfama and down the other side past the main cathedral, Se, to the Chiado district up to the Bairro Alto district and ends at the Estrela (Basílica).
Tickets cost around 3 euro and roughly 4 for a day ticket which gives you the opportunity to hop off and on this tram all day so you can take a closer look at some of the wonderful things you’ll see on the way!
