Portugal is one of Europe’s great wine nations – with 14 distinct regions, indigenous grape varieties found nowhere else on earth, and a winemaking tradition stretching back thousands of years. The Know Your Wine challenge puts all of that richness in your team’s hands.
Labels are hidden. Bottles are poured. And your teams must use observation, collaboration, and a little competitive instinct to identify what they’re tasting – and where it comes from.

The format
How the Challenge Works
A team leader and sommelier folder introduce Portugal’s wine landscape – regions, grape varieties, and the language of tasting. Methods are explained, examples given.
Groups of 5-8 people take their positions. Each team receives the same wines, the same tools, and equal challenge. Labels stay hidden throughout.
Teams taste, debate, and record their answers – identifying region, grape style, age, or blend characteristics depending on the challenge selected.
Labels are unveiled. Scores are tallied. Dinner follows – and the conversation rarely stops. Portugal’s wine has a way of making people curious.

The Three Challenges
Teams taste their way across Portugal’s 14 wine districts – identifying each wine by its regional character. Douro versus Alentejo. Vinho Verde against Dao. The differences are real, and learning them is genuinely absorbing.
Portugal has dozens of indigenous grape varieties found nowhere else in the world. This challenge focuses on blending styles and varietal character – understanding how Touriga Nacional differs from Alvarinho, and why it matters.
Structure, tannin, oxidation, evolution in bottle – teams learn to read the story a wine tells about its age and how it was made. One of the most talked-about challenges, even among non-wine people.
