Zoomarine, Algarve

Zoomarine Algarve is one of the nicest theme parks in Europe and the only place in Europe where you can swim with the dolphins!.

The theme park functions side by side with the  Zoomarine rescue and conservation center.

The rescue center was opened in 2002 out of a need and moral obligation for the rehabilitation of marine species in Portugal and works in close collaboration with the Portuguese Institute for Nature Conservation and Biodiversity, a zoological multidisciplinary team is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release into the wild of marine and aquatic animals. The center was the first of it´s type in Portugal. The also takes a leading position in research and eduction of subjects related to the conservation of marine animals of the shores of Portugal.

The bottlenose dolphin was once a species that abundantly occupied the waters of the Portuguese shores, sadly there is only a smalll colony of wild bottlenose dolphlins left in the Sado basin close to Sesimbra.

The zoomarine has 21 bottle nose dolphins in captivity that are treated with care and respect, the oldest died in 2011 at the age of 50 which is a very old age for a dolphin, though theme parks using animals for entertainment are often a  point of discussion  the Zoomarine has never given cause for concern and the animals give a well treated and content impression.

Dolphin Emotions Premium

The Dolphin Emotions Premium experience starts with an educational talk, imparting various facts about the bottlenose dolphin, its biology and ecology.

Then, participants spend about 30 minutes in the water, where, under the supervision of a trainer, they are invited to meet the dolphins, experience moments of tenderness and affection and perform an aquatic behaviour sequence with these extraordinary ambassadors of the ocean.

During the whole experience, participants are accompanied by an educator who will be able to answer your questions.

Including the educational session, the time spent getting changed and the session in the water, the total duration of the experience is approximately 90 minutes.

There is a maximum of 12 participants in each session. With prior reservation, participants can acquire the video and/or photographies of the experience.
