Portugal mainland has 3 main airports, Porto, Lisbon and Faro and the islands Madeira, Funchal and in the Azores, Ponta Delgada or Angra the Heroisme. All airport have regular airlines and budget flights from various budget flight companies.

Where you choose to go may depend very much on your interest.
Porto is the second largest city in Portugal and has become very popular for trendy travel, located close to the sea and mountains, the old center is a trendy world heritage site visited by many. The sea slightly wild gives a lot of possibility for surfing and sailing and other active water related adventures. The river Douro has many other boating possibilities. The region is also famous for its wines and particular cooking styles.

Lisbon, the capital and the most popular destination for group travel is slightly more expensive than Porto but has specifically in the winter a slightly drier climate, is more accustomed to tourism and has a larger offer. Close to the mountains of Arrabida, the beaches and local vineyards, it is a much loved destination for group travel.

The Algarve sleepy in the winter and explosive in the summer is the most visited as a district, mainly thanks to its amazing offer off long beaches and slightly warmer water. Parts of it are very full especially in the summer months but there are still many undiscovered places for those who like a little less mass tourism.

When to visit Portugal for your event

Portugal is great to visit all year round. Portugal has fresh green landscapes during the winter months and hot beach days during the summer months. The sea is generally quite during the winter and early spring making water activities  more difficult.
However rafting and some types of canoing and kayaking are best in the winter.

Some activities are more comfortable to do when the temperatures are not climbing above 30C/86F.

The summer months provide the best climate for beach days, outdoor eating and mountain activities.
