Roughly 18Km from Lisbon you will find one of the oldest and most beautiful manor houses in the Lisbon district that has produced wines for centuries on a family owned property. Today it is producing some price winning local wines and has opened its doors for groups wanting to take part in this unique atmosphere and the culture of Portuguese wine production.
In the manor house it is possible to follow workshops on all the processes of wine making modern and traditional, taste wine and combine traditional food, petiscos or tapas in an amazing surrounding suitable for any event.
Possibilities are wine blending workshops, wine bottling and labelling, cellar and vineyard tours, grape stumping, wine tasting and educational workshops about Portuguese wines and wine making processes.
About the wine
Inspired by the traditional way of making wine, Quinta das Carrafouchas results from the passionate work of its people, the land and the art of treating the wine and the vineyard. Licensed since 1932, only after 1954 that it started to produce white wine which was sold in bulk.
It is at present a private vineyard closest to the centre of Lisbon. We opted for the lusas varieties: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Arinto that are, where necessary, drizzled with the purest mine water.
For optimum quality, the harvesting is done manually and placed in boxes of 20 kg, in order to ensure the correct transport to the winery. This wine is born from a concept of maximum quality and that is why the wines will only see the light of day in years when all factors allow.
